The Siggiewi Local Council Successfully Hosts Erasmus+ Youth Exchange "MINDCRAFT: Youth and AI in Action"

The Siggiewi Local Council proudly hosted the Erasmus+ Youth Exchange “MINDCRAFT: Youth and AI in Action”, an international project that brought together young people from across Europe to explore the opportunities and challenges presented by Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Held in Siggiewi, Malta, between 25 and 30 May 2026, the project was coordinated by the Siggiewi Local Council in partnership with organisations from Italy, Portugal, Spain, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Malta. The exchange welcomed 32 young participants, accompanied by six group leaders, fostering intercultural dialogue and collaboration in an engaging and inclusive environment.

The primary objective of MINDCRAFT was to strengthen critical digital literacy through non-formal education. Throughout the week, participants engaged with AI technologies, including chatbots, image generation tools, and data-driven decision-making systems, while examining how algorithms influence communication, identity, relationships, and civic participation.

Through a series of interactive workshops, simulations, discussions, and collaborative activities, participants developed essential competences such as critical thinking, creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and ethical awareness in the digital sphere. The programme adopted a youth-centred approach, encouraging participants to lead sessions, share their experiences, and actively shape the learning process.

The project also reinforced the role of youth organisations in promoting innovation in digital education. By exchanging ideas and good practices, youth workers and group leaders explored new ways of using technology not only as a communication tool but also as a means of fostering creativity, empowerment, and social inclusion.

One of the project’s key achievements was the co-creation of the eBook, “Mindcraft: Navigating the Future – Youth Perspectives on AI and Responsibility.” Developed collectively by the participants, the publication brings together reflections, practical tools, ethical guidelines, and creative contributions that express young people’s perspectives on the responsible development and use of Artificial Intelligence.

MINDCRAFT was fully aligned with the priorities of the Erasmus+ Programme, particularly in the areas of digital transformation, inclusion and diversity, and youth participation. Beyond the exchange itself, the initiative aimed to inspire young people to become informed, responsible, and active digital citizens capable of contributing to a more ethical, inclusive, and participatory digital future across Europe.

The Siggiewi Local Council extends its sincere appreciation to all partner organisations, participants, youth leaders, and facilitators whose commitment and enthusiasm made MINDCRAFT a successful and enriching international experience. The Council remains committed to supporting initiatives that empower young people, strengthen European cooperation, and promote lifelong learning through international mobility and innovation.
